[Update] Super Typhoon Sinlaku – Safety Advisory for Visitors in Guam

As of April 14, 2026 (Tuesday Morning)

The Japan Guam Travel Association (JGTA) would like to provide an important update for all visitors currently staying in Guam.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku is currently impacting Guam with tropical storm-force winds, and hazardous conditions are ongoing across the island.

As of 8:00 AM, the storm was located approximately 140 miles (225 km) east-northeast of Guam, moving northwest.
Although the typhoon has slightly weakened, it remains a very powerful system, and dangerous conditions continue.

■ Current Conditions

  • Sustained winds: 50–60 mph (80–97 km/h)
  • Wind gusts: 70–80 mph (113–129 km/h)
  • Heavy rainbands and strong winds affecting the island
  • Power outages reported in some areas

The closest point of approach to Guam is expected between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM today (Tuesday).
However, severe weather conditions will continue before and after this period, including into the evening and overnight hours.

■ Important Safety Instructions

  • Guam remains under Condition of Readiness 1 (COR1)
  • All residents and visitors are required to remain indoors until authorities announce COR4 (All Clear)
  • Do NOT go outside under any circumstances
  • Stay away from windows and glass areas
  • Avoid all road travel and movement

Emergency services may be limited, and response times may be delayed due to dangerous conditions.

■ Expected Conditions

  • Peak conditions: Early to mid-afternoon today
  • Strong winds and heavy rain will continue into tonight and early Wednesday
  • Conditions are expected to gradually improve Wednesday afternoon, though hazardous winds may persist into Wednesday morning

■ Additional Notes

  • Wind direction will shift as the storm passes north of Guam toward Saipan and Tinian
  • Gradual weakening is expected due to dry air, but this will NOT result in immediate improvement
  • Power restoration efforts are ongoing but may be delayed due to safety concerns

■ Emergency & Support Information

  • Emergency: 911

■ Message to Visitors

Your safety is our highest priority.
Please remain indoors, stay calm, and follow all official instructions.

Even after the storm passes its closest point, dangerous conditions will continue, and it is critical to remain sheltered until authorities confirm it is safe.

JGTA will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed.

If you want, I can also:

  • Create a short homepage alert banner (2–3 lines)
  • Convert this into a Rakuten + JGTA unified message
  • Make a Japanese version aligned exactly with this update
